After living abroad for 15 years we decided to make Holland our home again. We felt more comfortable with the boys growing up as Dutchmen than as Yankees.
Daan would need to move to secondary school in 2007, before that we wanted him to spend some time in a Dutch elementary school to get used to the culture and to improve his written Dutch.
We sold everything we had in the US. Our cars, our house, our import/export business and most furniture so that we could make a clean start in Holland where we would likely live in a much smaller house than the castle we lived in in Texas. Somehow we still had over 100 boxes with household goods that we moved to Holland to be put in storage until we would find a new house.
Daan made good money putting all our possessions on a website and getting a commission of everything sold. At least some consolation for all the things left behind.
