Daan in Tokyo

My father and I have been talking about going to Japan for ages however either we had no time or it was too expensive so we just never got around to it .
We where both very happy when we finally went to Tokyo this summer on the 17th of august 2006 we left Holland and flew to Tokyo.

Killing time with my gameboy.

On our first day in Japan right out of getting of the bus from the airport and delivering our stuff to the hotel we went to the Asagay.district were we lived when I was born. We went to a little restaurant that we used to live across from and a pub that my father and mother used to used to visit a lot.

Inside the Soba & Ramen shop of the Tanaka family in Asagaya. They spoiled me with great food :-)

We also went to the hospital were I was born .

On the second day in Japan I went to a science museum with my dads friend his children and one of the children's friends (Rikita) then I slept at their house.

Kensuke Sakamoto, his sister and Rikita.

Water balloons..

The next day my dad Kensuke Rikita and I went to an other museum, took a boat on the Sumida river of Tokyo, and went to the temple complex of Asakusa.

Some rest after the long walk.

Mt. Fuji

On the 4th day we went by bus to Mt. Fuji and started climbing. At night we slept in a small hut on the mountain close from the top.  We woke up at 4: 30 and continued climbing 5:45 we reached the top of Mt. Fuji just in time to see the sun come up from below the clouds!   We then walked around the crater which was very tough because of the lower oxygen at this high altitude.. Then we quickly went down the mountain. We got on the bus again and went to a public bath after we bathed we went to the hotel in Tokyo.

Ouch, without gloves...

Traffic jam on the way up.

At higher altitude there is no more vegetation.

A few meters from the top.

Tired, but glad I made it.

We were not the only ones who had climbed that night to reach the top...

The crater that we walked around.

Sleeping half-way around the crater.

Akihabara

Next day around 11 o'clock we went to Akihabara the largest area of electronics stores in Japan.

Akihabara is also described as the city of geeks.

Again lots of walking. We went too bed early that night.

Tsukiji fish market

The next morning we went to Tsukiji, the largest fish market in the world. Of course we had a great sushi breakfast here.

Meiji Shrine

after that we went to the Meiji shrine.

We were lucky because we saw a wedding and a group of students invited us to watch their competition of Japanese archery in a traditional archery ground close to the temple.

That is one big Tori.

Nikko

The next day we went to a small town out side of Tokyo called Nikko with a colleague of my father.

Nikko is famous for its temples and shrines so we spent a lot of time walking though park with the temples.

We went back to Tokyo and the next morning I was on the plane back to Holland.
